Ah, well... I still need to get it back but... I picked an apple last week after what happened with Samuel. I thought at the time that there was someone possessed, so I wanted to use it to cure them. Then, there was everything that happened with Claude and... well, I felt pretty awful for a while because I thought I missed my chance to save him.

[ he spiraled so hard that it leaked into his letters to adolphe ]

It's alright now, since we talked it over. [ a beat ] He's having a hard time trusting people here, but I can look after him, if that helps.

But... I did want to have that apple available so that maybe it could be used to help someone. There is a use for it back home that I have in mind if somehow we don't need it, so it'll never go to waste but... I wanted to do what I could to help.

I don't mind having it... I can use it here, or if I don't, then I have a use in mind when I go home so it won't go to waste. I just didn't want the apple that I got for hurting my friend to be a reward for me.

I don't know if I could see you using it as a reward for yourself in any timeline, but with the people you've told, I'm sure they'll keep a close eye on it if it somehow doesn't manage to come over here.

At the very least, it's not an apple that just anyone can use.

Right? So I'm not too worried... I might just see if I can ask for it back... I'm not sure what's going on with Monsieur Lucas, but we still have some time left...

[ and he knows that he'll just want to have it on hand just in case ]

For what it's worth... I think he knows, objectively, that he's being difficult. But even Claude can have trouble being objective all the time. So even if things don't work out...

I like it better that he's not objective about it. I'd rather he feel something about it. He worries about being a good person, but I just want him to feel like it's okay to be any kind of person at the end of the day and he'll still be loved.

That's something he deserves.

Don't worry, that's my goal too. Even if he's a little annoying about it.

I'm sure that with enough perseverance and maybe a few more well-timed weeks and effects, he'll eventually get it.

Adolphe has shifted to resignation with me. I don't think Claude is resigned with you. You're both pretty affectionate with each other.

Adolphe ignored me for multiple months without a single word to spare, so I think you're doing a lot better than I did. Though I do think that once you get through to him, it's pretty easy to sort of fit yourself into his life and he won't be able to do much against it.

as for claude, the answer to that is simple: ]

I think I benefited from this place forcing things out of him. I did get him to admit a list of people he at least tolerated. [ which means he likes and cares about them. ] Jacopo was on the list.
