I wonder if we'll be able to find out tomorrow. Maybe the guardian angels can tell us. [ lol ] Even if they didn't know it could happen, maybe.... they could find out how it did happen?
I sure hope they do. That text after doesn't inspire much confidence. They didn't know it was possible.
I mean... [He waves a hand, at a loss. For words, for thought.] I don't want to beat a dead horse, or go wrapping my head in tin foil or anything. But so much here has felt like an extension instead of an afterlife. I'm still keen for nicotine, for one. And I can't see for shit — why would a guy need glasses in paradise? Huh? What a rip off.
And a few things other folks have said...things that ought to have been resolved by dying, haven't. We're all too physical. Don't you think?
The physicality doesn't bother me too much although it is a little strange. We are in a limbo, if we're supposed to have a second chance... so in that way, it makes sense. If we're to go back to life, we can't be let go of it. An extension fits.
But dying after dying.... that's the part that sticks out the most to me. Dying a second time, I understand, but not like this.
People can be brought back to life. Or they pay a price to escape death. I'm sure other worlds have examples like that, too. Akihiko mentioned he knew of someone who was revived.
[i've done romantic stabs twice i refuse to be called a coward!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway he is strangely pensive at that. His eyes flick between hers a moment, expression drawn even, then he ducks his head away.]
Guess it follows that could happen somewhere.
Shadowheart told me most people don't have access to their old bags of tricks though, so. Don't know how much that could do for our girl Charlie. Or how much it applies to our being here.
It's special for my world, too, but I know it isn't impossible. It may not apply here, but... that's why everything's been so odd. Why would this happen after they've told us we all have a second chance at life?
Exactly. There shouldn't be the option to die at all. What if you'd choked on a chicken bone at the burger shack on day one? [Another voice, this time low and ancient. Faux godly.] Tough luck, son, but redemption is for people who chew their food.
And that message. They had some kind of procedure. Protocol. Whether that was for a death specifically, or just in case of injury, or some kind of other emergency, I don't know. But they knew something could go wrong.

We couldn't, could we? That's one of the worse parts. [ getting made unconscious. ] If she was awake.... I don't know if I hope she was or not.

I know. It's not like we have any idea what happened. I just — what was it? A bad fall? Getting caught in the undertow?
[Worse?]
...Just fucking unbelievable.

There's always a chance for something to go wrong, isn't there? It's not like you can control everyone or everything.
It's better that something could go wrong than nothing at all.
