[ elysia is taken aback for a second before she returns the smile and takes a seat. ]

I'd love to have tea with you. Any special occasion?

I'm in a good mood. And I'd love to continue our conversation.

[though do not drink the general tea on offer, unless you want to speak in rhymes.]

[ it is time to commit to rhymes... elysia doesn't know what the tea does yet. ]

You are always lovely, but you're the most lovely when you're smiling.

What do you want to talk about?

I wanted you to tell me more about hope. But I wanted to know why you believe in it.

[not just in the abstract.]

How could I not?

[ she pours herself a cup of tea. ]

Tragedy is the beginning of hope to me. When everything is in shambles, light still manages to filter through the cracks. I know darkness is what you believe in, but I like both. It is because they both exist that makes hope real to me. How can such contradictions exist? How can humanity be so kind and so cruel at the same time? That's one of the first questions I thought long and hard over.

Even if the world is falling apart, you still think about how there's a tomorrow, don't you? You still think about what you're going to do tomorrow. If there is a tomorrow, there is hope.

If there's a future... I think everyone deserves a better ending.

[she listens, her smile slipping away.]

Thank you for telling me this. I want to learn how to better serve Lady Shar, to truly become her champion. And these are the sort of ideals I can destroy in her name.

[ this is so sudden. elysia takes a sip of tea. well, she never writes anyone off even if they say they stand for everything counter to what she believes in. ]

Is that the true teaching of your god? I can't say it's something I'd applaud, but I'd like to understand. If you feel free enough to expand.

It's as I said. We extinguish illusions like hope and the dream of a better tomorrow. We will bring about Lady Shar's perfect darkness.

It's not a popular set of beliefs, so I don't exactly open with them.

Why have you decided to tell me now? I don't think my beliefs would help you with that somehow.

Even if you're set out to destroy them, it's not as if they're the kind of thing that can easily succumb.

I wanted to know your reasons, but still all you say is what you believe. You say nothing of yourself. You never do.

How much of your faith is you? Considering it's something you say you pursue.

It's everything to me. I've given up everything else of myself so that my beliefs can be pure and unwavering.

[ she looks thoughtful at those questions, but she smiles all the same. ]

I'm only someone who's a little cuter or a little prettier than most, who's been to a lot of places and seen a lot of people. What more are you hoping for, Shadowheart? Are you hoping for more for yourself?

[her lip curls just a little at that.]

No. I'm content with what I have.

Yeah? But you don't look unbothered. Please try and crush my hope.
