[ she can hear that faint tiredness. at that question, she gives shadowheart a small smile. ]

I've seen my fair share of malice, over and over again, but I've also seen as much kindness. People are contradictory at every turn, but I still think if people retain the chance to keep their humanity... or their heart, that's hope. That's hope we all need.

[an honest answer. there's something about what elysia is saying that sounds insane to her. you'd have to be unwell, broken, to see so much and see hope and beauty and to believe in humanity this much. but then it leads her to wonder why she's so certain herself, and touching on that leads to so many places she's afraid to go.]

I don't think so. I doubt I've seen much of the world or of people at all. I just know, that things such as hope are an illusion, a crutch. [it's a fundamental fact of the universe, the same as gravity.]

Hmm, it could just be the way you are. Both can be true.

[ is elysia sane? despite what shadowheart is saying, elysia smiles. ]

If hope is an illusion, then how do you know when things are so dark that you can barely see? And even if all it is is a crutch, what's so wrong with that? If you break your leg, shouldn't you have help to keep you moving forward?

In perfect darkness, you move, you act, you rely on instincts instead of only what you see ahead of you. It's the light that blinds.

[darkness is literally her religion, so.]

All of that is what prevents most people from finding themselves in the dark.

elysia has witnessed a few in her time, and she likes learning about them all even if she doesn't agree with everything they teach. ]

What do you do if people stay lost in the dark?

Some will, surely. Not everyone has the strength to find their way. But Shar is showing them kindness, whether they know it or not. We teach them how to embrace loss.

There is no way to escape loss, so that is something we all must learn. [ it's something she agrees with. ] I just think... even if light is blinding, once you open your eyes again and adjust to it, you can see something new.

There's nothing wrong with knowing who you are in the dark but also wanting to see how you are in the light.
