Reacting and caring about them is normal and expected, but you can do that and not do what they ask or offer.

[ maybe it was a bit of a mess, but that just shows their humanity. or like. they have hearts. because not everyone is human. ]

Who else would try who hasn't already? We can talk them down again. This time, though... even if they were pushed into it by something we don't know... we'll have to decide what we think is the best way to go forward.
